30,000 m³ of earthworks for MXoN TT Circuit Assen

For the Assen Grand Prix in the contest for victory at the MXoN, De Romein constructed a temporary motocross track at the TT Circuit: 30,000 m³ of earthmoving

For the Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations (MXoN) competition, De Romein moved an impressive 30,000 cubic meters of earth twice between September 22 and October 3, 2019—a monumental task. As the main contractor and a key partner of the organizer LDP, we worked closely with Australian track designer Greg Atkins once again during the construction.

30,000 Cubic Meters of Earth

In the last week of September, we deployed all our resources to relocate the enormous quantity of 30,000 cubic meters of earth toward the main grandstand of the TT Circuit Assen, between Geert Timmerbocht and Haarbocht. That amounts to about a thousand truckloads of dirt. Using cranes, dump trucks, articulated dumpers, tractors, regular trucks, loaders, and bulldozers, we constructed the temporary motocross track to precisely meet the standards and requirements for a World Championship motocross track. And within three days after the race weekend, we had cleared all the sand from the motocross track as if nothing had ever happened.

Track Designer Greg Atkins

Greg Atkins comes up with a new design each year, ensuring that the track is always different. “The challenge lies mostly in creating a circuit that is challenging for the riders within the space that the track offers,” explains our project manager John Geschiere. Atkins is a hands-on kind of guy and isn't afraid to hop onto the loader himself. He understands that the drafting table and reality often differ, and he collaborates with us in a very goal-oriented and practical manner in the track construction. This creates a particularly pleasant working relationship.
