On behalf of TenneT, De Romein Group is working on the Wahle-Mecklar project for the construction of a 380kV high-voltage network. The work includes eight HDD boreholes in which 12 pipes for high-voltage cables will be installed. The HDD boreholes are being carried out to pass under several roads, railway lines, and the River Innerste. At each crossing, drilling takes place at 12 points, with pipe diameters varying from 280 to 315 mm.
HDD Boreholes:
The lengths of the longest drillings are 735 and 802 meters and must be executed with high precision. To work as accurately as possible, the latest technologies are employed. De Romein Group has acquired two new hybrid drilling machines, a PD45T and a PD100T from Prime Drilling. These hybrid machines are fully electric.
Soil Types:
Based on the various geological compositions, ranging from sand to rocks, different drilling installations are used for the Wahle-Mecklar project. Various techniques, such as rotary drilling, are employed.
